Ammar Alnahhas

The painter and sculptor Ammar Alnahhas hails from a beautiful, historic country that once was in peace, but today is torn by civil wars – Syria. He studied Plastic Arts between 1997 and 2001 at the University of Damascus. After settling in Romania, he developed his own unique way to express his feelings through painting and sculpture. Influenced by the cultural patterns of Syria, his art mixed with the colors and traditions of Romania.

“Me and my paintings speak to each other. I never complete a work until we have spoken…”

About his style of painting he says: “Me and my paintings speak to each other. I never complete a work until we have spoken. In the meantime, I sketch. At home, I always find myself with a piece of paper in my hands. The sketches I work on are in the good tradition of the school of sculpture that I attended. First of all, I am a sculptor – and you can see that in my sketches. I always paint as a sculptor, not as a painter.” Ammar Alnahhas has won multiple prizes and awards – among them, in 2006, the most significant prize: “The Key of the Old Damascus”. Since 2010, his works have been exhibited in Basil Art Gallery, Elite Art Gallery, and Ana Gallery in Bucharest. His works can also be found in private collections beyond the borders of Europe well into the Orient.
