Education and Future Prospects in Predeal

The economic change of Predeal, a town in the midst of the beautiful Carpathian Mountains, is visible and tangible. In the town hall of Predeal, we meet mayor Mr. Liviu Cocoș, who welcomes us into his nobly furnished office. Many of his building projects are displayed here through all stages, from planning to model and up to completion.

“We can be proud of our achievements today”, mayor Cocoș states. “We have started great and important projects and we have proven that we implement our plans. We are changing Predeal. We are moving on and winning back time that was lost. As the strong community that we are, we can work together and bring forward the values that we are proud of. Every step that we take forward determines our success.”

“Romania is moving on, people are eager to use their opportunities and to make the most of the resources that they have,“ says the vice president of Never Give Up, Christoph Schwarz. “Often, not the lack of resources is the problem, but the lack of bridges and ways to transport resources to the place where they are needed.“

Never Give Up built these bridges in November of 2015 and transported much-needed equipment and furniture to the Mihail Săulescu secondary school in Predeal. The school was equipped with chairs, tables, cabinets, scientific material, and computer workstations.

“The parent association LMS Predeal was founded to build support for the school. We need patience, trust and understanding to advance our work. As parents, we are proud of our children and we want to promote their development. We want them to like going to school and to be trained so that they will be capable to build our nation,” says Mrs. Luminița Grigore, president of the LMS parent association.
For these young people, perspectives need to be created. Hand in hand with the mayor and the principal of the secondary school, Prof. Ercuș Florin, more future projects were discussed and planned on site.

A long-term exchange is an important base for making a tangible contribution to the prospects of the people living in this exceptionally beautiful mountain region.

The mayor of the town and the principal of the school expressed their gratitude for the support and the planned intercultural collaboration to the president of Never Give Up, Mrs. Katharine Siegling.
